Last week I'd mentioned that it would be nice to go to the pub again as it's always nice to have adult conversation and it's also a great way to have a drink with the two kiddies in tow. Friday is the usual day that we go and so we'd been planning to go today because it was my birthday earlier in the week. It turned out though that the crowd we usually go with were planning to eat downtown tonight, but Scott said that a few of them would still come out for a drink so we headed down.
Leila, Edward and I were a little later than usual because we'd been trying all day to get together with Anca and Anastasia but naptimes just weren't coinciding, so we went to the park together once Leila woke from her nap. It was really nice to get out to the park though as we'd not been in ages. Leila enjoyed the swing and playing on the equipment as usual, then we went for a walk around the grounds while Anastasia was in her buggy. Leila ran ahead, which I encouraged in an attempt to tire her out!
When we got to the pub we found it full of friends - Scotty had emailed round and said that I might enjoy some adult conversation as it had been my birthday and so a really good bunch of people turned it! Some of them were the usual crowd and others I hadn't managed to see since the start-of-year bbq which was nice to catch up a bit (although most conversations were still in passing as kids were demanding attention or beers being ordered). Edward was again very tolerant of being passed around and Leila played with Sophia (until Sophia had a slight tantrum and Leila just looked on, slightly scared!)
It was a really great evening - a really nice treat for us all.
Then on Sunday the 'adult conversation' continued as we hosted a playdate at ours. It was great to see everyone and of course the noise and activity level was pretty high! This time we were better prepared as we bought a coffee filter a few days before (rather than our beloved, but slow, aeropress). We were joined by a fourth family this time, who hadn't been able to come before. Their two-year-old had recently had a bad burns accident, so it was good to see that he was getting better. The thing we discovered with this playdate though was that the kids loved to go upstairs - Leila knows that all her toys are downstairs, but the other kids didn't and they constantly wanted to explore. It was hard to keep tabs on them - and they all trooped up when I was trying to put Edward down, but it worked out in the end.
A great weekend all round really ;-)
