Leila is getting so grown up now. It's amazing to see how she is doing more and more each day. We're not sure if it's just a 'stage' thing, or if it has been brought on because of having Edward around.
Her language is coming on in leaps and bounds with new words being picked up quickly and used every day. Her new words in the last few days have included bogie (as she has a snotty cold, but sounds more like 'bugger'), cake (as she went to a birthday party) and tay car ('take care'). She has also progressed from sounds to identify animals e.g. 'raargh' when she sees a lion, to actually using the animal name. She loves to tell us (or anyone who'll listen!) about what she has been doing. She acted out our trip to the zoo for Scott one bedtime, and was very animated in telling Gramps about the mud that was outside the house
She is able to count from 1 to 10 and although she doesn't really know what this all means she can identify a few numbers from their symbol (she recognised the number 8 today, and of course can recognise 10!)
She is very physical and is able to get up and down from chairs by herself (although this brings about more anxiety rather than excitement!). She loves to jump (and has been able to do a standing jump for some time now) and makes a beeline to the trampoline if we are invited to a house with one. At the park her favourite thing is the swing (closely followed by picking up dirt from the floor) and she will happily spend the whole time on it. Although she probably could do a walk to the shops we always go in the buggy as it's quicker and easier for bringing things back. We have done a few walks to the 'hole' on our street though. Leila has recently started really running and can get some speed up if she tries (although we tend to slow her down as most running ends in tears when she falls and scrapes her knee). If she is running though she likes to involve us all and so says 'buggy, muma. Fast!' to get us all going!
Leila is generally very good with Edward and is always very sweet and caring for him. Whenever he sneezes (which is quite often), she will run out of the room and go to find a tissue and then will poke it in his face and then run off to put it in the bin. Leila is always wanting to cuddle ('cu cu') Edward and whilst this is a positive thing we have to try and suppress this desire when he is asleep! He can sleep through a lot of noise and poking, but there are times when her insistence does wake him up.
She is also becoming a Little Madam at times and can be quite contrary. She goes through phases of saying 'no' to everything, although these tend to be about 15-minutes long and are because she can't say what she _does_ want to do/have. We haven't had too many tantrums, but the ones that we have had tend to be tiredness related. Every day there tends to be a new distraction technique employed by Leila; whether it is wanting a nappy change two minutes after the last one, or wanting a certain story that just can't be found, or refusing to wash hands before dinner as she wants to use the potty etc.
All in all it is a really exciting time to see Leila growing up and to see her growing up alongside Edward. We're so lucky to have such a wonderful little girl and although we miss many things about Cairo, our set-up and life here is proving to be a great grounding for her as a toddler.
