Today we took the bus. But not just any bus, we took the yellow bus! This is the bus that runs along the end of our road and we have seen many times, but not yet taken. In one direction it goes as far as the zoo, but in the other direction it goes past the school and along the big main Pipera-Tunari road towards the city and the Metro line (annoyingly it doesn't quite go all the way to the Metro line though!)
We took the bus because we had some letters to post and in Romania it seems that post boxes and stamps do not exist - instead you have to go directly to a Post Office to have your mail franked. A bit of a faff really, but if it means that the post gets to its destination (it was always quite hit and miss in Cairo!), then it is worthwhile.
It was very easy to get the bus there as we only had to wait 5 minutes opposite the end of our road. I then was successful in guessing the stop we needed to get off at and we just had 50m to walk to the Post Office itself. The clerk there spoke enough English to understand where the letters were going and it cost just 7lei (£1.30) for the three letters.
Getting back home took a lot longer (1.5 hours!) as we popped into the bank (which was a longer walk up the road than I thought) and then I walked the wrong direction to the (not) nearest bus stop....and then we missed getting off at the right stop!
Leila was very good at doing lots of walking (two bananas helped I'm sure) and hopefully we'll make it a regular trip if the letters actually arrive.
