Made By You

I'm writing this on the Sunday at the end of half-term.  We were determined to make the most of the week, and so made a big list of things we wanted to do rather than risk wasting the day sitting around at home.  It paid off.  We've had a lovely week together, despite needing to spend the first few days getting over our various coughs and colds.

One of our outings was to Made By You - a paint-it-yourself pottery place.  We'd been to pottery cafes in Egypt and have mugs and plates with Leila's hand/foot print on them.  However, we hadn't managed to get Edward's done so headed out to rectify that.  This is very much focused on the pottery rather than being a cafe, which was the other way round from Egypt.  The advantage of this is that the lady who ran the place was really helpful at giving advice and ideas on technique, whereas in Cairo we were just given the paints and left to get on with it!

Although Leila was getting a bit restless during the introduction, she was really well behaved and chose to paint a miniature teacup and saucer while we picked out a large plate for family prints.  Leila began by painting a foundation layer on her saucer, and while that dried we printed Edward's feet and her hands.

 

Those of you who are eagle-eyed will have noticed that we chose blue-yellow-red, the colours of the Romanian flag.  Alice and I put our hand prints on the reverse of the plate as well - we hadn't thought of doing that until the manger suggested it!

Then it was back to decorating Leila's cup and saucer, with a bit more help from the manager who seemed to enjoy working with us.

I need to go downtown to pick up the finished pieces this week, so will post photos when I've got them!
