We knew that we wanted to have a day trip to Lincoln and so were excited to find out that there was a fun trail we could explore too. Lots of cities are doing this now - choose an iconic statue shape and get various artists/groups to decorate one and then place them around the city. Here in Lincoln it was The Barons Trail to mark the octenary of the signing of the Magna Carta and we felt that finding "the men" would be a more accessible way of celebrating the Magna Carta than visiting the exhibition with Leila and Edward!
We took the train in first thing - meaning that Edward took his nap in the sling and that we got there before the first charity shop on route was even open (!!) We had a target area for shopping and managed a quick dash (in turns) to get some new shoes, but attempts at browsing in Mothercare and Gap were thwarted by Leila being an impatient shopper and being driven by her stomach. So after a few charity shops we did stop for a snack and a coffee break.
Then we got down to some serious sight-seeing along the Barons Trail. It took a while to get Leila into it, but getting her out of the buggy and encouraging a bit of running/chasing and looking for "the men" meant that she did start to enjoy herself. We got a fair way around the trail, but had to admit defeat half-way up Steep Hill. We took a detour and found ourselves at the museum (and another "man") and then wound our way back down the hill before grabbing some lunch (Boots meal deal is such a bargain) and eat out on a bench in town.
We took the train home just after lunch and were feeling pretty good about a successful morning out. Looking back, our trip to Lincoln two summers ago was again a stepping point for us realising that 'we can do this'. Both Leila and Edward fell asleep as we walked back from Ruskington station - that final ten minutes being a little too much after a morning out. Unfortunately Leila didn't transfer very well into bed back at the house, though, so she was rather tired for the rest of the afternoon!
