Edward has been saying "Dada" for some time now - it was exciting at first when he called Scott "Dada" but then we found that he used it pretty indiscriminately as a term for anyone!!
After a couple of weeks though he started on "Mama" too (and now sometimes "Mam"). What is so sweet about this though is that he uses different intonations for us both - a high pitched "Mama" for me and a growl-like "Dada" for Scott. Even though we have had all the grandparents here throughout December he hasn't yet got different names for them, but does know their names if we ask him e.g. "Give this to Grandpa" and he goes to Grandpa.
For Leila he makes a sound that more resembles "Sister" than "Leila" which is pretty hilarious, but does tally up as we often say things like "we're going to get your sister now" etc.
As Leila did, Edward is developing sounds for toys and objects before naming them. He does a lovely high-pitched "mmmm" like a cat'e meow whenever he sees a cat or picture of one (they are one of his favourite animals, along with dogs "whhh, whhh").
As well as sounds for most animals, he also has sounds for things like cars "bbrrrr" (sometimes sounds like dog though) which is normally accompanied by the action of rubbing his tummy (as I sometimes run cars across this tummy). He totally understands when we are going to the car as he gets himself ready by the door to the cellar!
A favourite sound that he has developed recently though is the "whhho, whhho, whhho" of Santa! It's really funny to see. What is great is that he does it whenever he sees a picture of Santa (which happens quite a bit at the moment). When we are in the house it is normally accompanied by the palms-up sign which means 'where?' as every morning during advent we have to look for Santa to find our advent story book present.
Oh and he's very Romanian as he says "Dah" for yes!
